George Knight

George Robert Knight (1879-1961) was first elected to Homebush Council in 1906.  Knight was a rose and nurseryman.  He operated George Knight & Sons on Parramatta Road Homebush.  This business was located east of Powells Creek and the nursery was about 1 acre in size.

He served on Homebush Council as an Alderman in the years 1906-1908, 1908-1911, 1911-1914, 1914-1917, 1917-20, 1920-22, 1922-1925, 1934-1937, 1937-1941, 1941-1944, 1944-1947

He was elected Mayor of Homebush in the years of 1917-1919.  He also served as Deputy Mayor in 1942.

Knight Street Homebush is named for George Knight.  The street was formerly known as Rochester Street but was renamed by Strathfield Council in 1949, Knight Street in honour of the former Mayor and Alderman.
