The Liverpool Road bridge crossing of the Cooks River at Strathfield South was once known as Moore’s Bridge and was built in 1814, when Liverpool Road was first built. The Cooks River and the Cooks River shared pathway passes under the bridge.
In 1810, Governor Macquarie announced plans to establish townships at Liverpool and the settlements in the Hawkesbury district of Richmond, Windsor, Pitt Town, Castlereagh and Wilberforce. To enable transport to these towns, plans were made for the building of new roads. The building of Liverpool Road (also later known as Hume Highway) was announced in 1812 and was built by road contractor William Roberts (Roberts Rd in Greenacre is named for him). The road and bridge was completed in 1814.
