- Mayor of Strathfield 1966-1967
- Deputy Mayor 1968
Frederick Cartwright served on Strathfield Council from 1959 to 1968 and from 1971 to 1972.
Frederick Cartwright (d.1972) was elected at an ordinary Council election in December 1959. He died in December 1972 while serving as an Alderman. The Council resolved to rename Gunter Avenue in Homebush, Cartwright Avenue after him. He was elected Mayor of Strathfield in 1967.
Alderman Cartwright’s death represents a severe lost to the council and the local community, as he had a close knowledge of the municipality, the tickly the Homebush area, where he resided for the last 43 years.
A Mayoral Minute was presented by the Mayor Bill Boyce on 12 January 1973, which stated:
‘Alderman Cartwright‘s death represents a severe lost to the council and the local community, as he had a close knowledge of the municipality, the tickly the Homebush area, where he resided for the last 43 years.
He was a sincere and vigourous representative for the residents of Homebush and during his years as a member of the Council he spared no efforts to receive and place before Council representations from the people of the area. He was particularly active as a representative of the residents of the Markets area during the difficult period where homes were being purchased for Markets purposes. Alderman Cartwright was interested many activities apart from the local government service, being a member of the Western Suburbs Leagues club, the Masonic Lodge (Concord West) and the Homebush and West Strathfield Bowling clubs. He was a bowler of some considerable skill and represented to Homebush Club in Pennant matches.’
