Margaret Street Strathfield

The Redmire Estate was sub-divided and offered for sale in 1867.  Frederick Wherritt purchased 13 acres of Lot 35 of this Estate in 1867, which he further subdivided in 1870 and Margaret St was formed.  Margaret is believed to be the wife of Frederick Wherritt.

Charles Lawrence, journalist, radio commentator [2GB] and voice of Cinesound Newsreels.

Judge Edward Scholes lived at ‘Wellbeck’ from 1911, a solicitor from 1878 he was appointed as a judge and served as Alderman on Burwood Council for 12 years and was Mayor of Burwood in 1891.

John Leahy, a well known pastoralist, lived at ‘Wellbeck’ in Margaret St. Leahy was the owner of ‘Tulloch’, the champion racehorse and Melbourne Cup winner.
