‘Carinya’, 24 Abbotsford Rd Homebush was built on Lot 2 of the Smith’s Estate subdivision. Approval was granted on 25 November 1913 to build a house for its owner Benjamin Dale of Burwood Road, Concord. The approved building was a brick cottage and slate roof of more than four rooms at an estimated cost of £700. The builder was A & E Bradley, Albert Road, Strathfield. The owner Dale was listed as a railway employee.
Dale (1875-1957) was the continuous owner and lived at ‘Carniya’ with his wife Laura (1879-1945) (formerly Beckhaus) until his death. The house was sold from Dale’s estate in 1959 to Stewart Booth, a clerk and his wife Gloria.
