‘Mycumbene’ 51 Abbotsford Road Homebush is located on Section 9 of the ‘Village of Homebush Estate’, which was subdivided in 1878.
The house was built in 1912. Council minutes note an approval for applicant D Esplin in January 1912 for erection of a house on Lot 29. The owner is noted as Eric Charles Greening. The estimated cost of the building was £650.00.
The house first appears in Sands Directory in 1913 occupied by Mrs Louisa Greening and named ‘Mycumbene’. Louisa Greening (1861-1941) (née Soper) married Charles Greening (1861-1911) in 1886. He died in 1911, prior to the building of this house. Louisa Greening is listed as the owner of the house on all valuation lists.
One of her sons was Eric Charles Greening (1886-1966). Greening was a plumber of the local business E C Greening & Co. Greening was a lifelong resident of Strathfield.
Louisa Greening lived in this house until her death in 1941. Ownership of the house remained in the Estate of Louisa Greening until at least 1954.
The house was numbered 41 Abbotsford Road but renumbered 51 Abbotsford Road in 1954.
