Vernon Street Strathfield

Vernon Street Strathfield was created in the 1880 Mount Vernon sub-division, which sub-divided John Vernon’s property.

John Vernon [1845-1924] served for 28 years in NSW Railways, transferred to NSW Treasury and became Auditor-General and trustee of Australian Museum.  Other members of the Vernon family also resided in Strathfield included: Donald Vernon, one time Secretary of the NSW Railways and one-time resident of ‘Clewer’ Albert Rd, Strathfield (later the site of Loreto Nursing Home and currently the Australian Catholic University).
