Alexander (AWS) Gregg

Alexander Walter Scott (AWS) GREGG

Gregg resided at ‘Dunisla’ The Crescent Homebush.  ‘Dunisla’ has been demolished but the gates are still standing.

Gregg was the senior partner in the real estate agency Richardson & Wrench.  Gregg commenced employment with Richardson and Wrench as a clerk but later became an auctioneer and partner.  He was employed for 53 years and at the time of his death was the managing director.

After the retirement of founders Robert Richardson (c.1827-1900) and Edward Wrench (1828-1893), he and his brother James became the principals of the firm and converted the firm into a public company.  James Gregg (1850-1922) was also active in local politics, serving as an Alderman and Mayor of Burwood Council.

Gregg was also a prominent land owner in early Homebush and was a member of the Presbyterian Church.  He married his second wife Irene Chatfield McKenzie at St James, Burwood, NSW on 12 March 1914.  He died in 1915, leaving a son James Gregg, a well-known stock owner and buyer.
