Cinemas in the Inner West History Talk

The Cinema History talk presented by Cathy Jones will be held on Saturday 3 October 2026 at the City of Canada Bay Museum, 1 Bent Street Concord. The meeting commences at 1.30pm for a 2pm sharp start.

The talk covers a range of topics including discussion of the rise and fall of suburban cinemas, histories of many cinemas in Sydney’s west, the influence of the American Film Studios on distribution of films to suburban cinemas and the advent of television leading the decline in cinema attendance and the rise from the 1950s until the 1970s of the drive in theatre.

Light refreshments will be served after the talk. This talk has been organised by the City of Canada Bay Heritage Society and any inquiries should be directed to heritage@canadabayheritage.asn.com.
