Thomas Dalton JP (1866-1929) was a member of the first Homebush Council.
Dalton was a contractor and lived at ‘Mafeking’ Underwood Rd Homebush. He married Mary Coady (d.1928) in 1857. The couple had three children: Arthur, Connie and Iris. He died on 9 May 1929 and is buried at Rookwood Cemetery .
Dalton served on Homebush Council as an Alderman in the years 1906-1908, 1911-1914 and 1925-1928.
Dalton was elected Mayor of Homebush on 15 December 1926 for the year commencing in December 1926 and concluding in December 1927.
I am a relative of Thomas (descended from his older brother John). Do you know anything of his parents John Dalton and Bridget McElvoy Dalton? They also lived in the Strathfield area.

Thomas Dalton’s parents were John and Bridget Dalton. John Dalton (1801-1875) had been transported as a convict for life and arrived in Sydney in 1833. He was in his fifties when he married Bridget McElroy at St Mary’s Cathedral in August 1854. Bridget signed the register with an X. Their first child, William was born at Druitt Town (now Strathfield South) in mid-May the following year. The large family remained local.
