In response to a request for information on this house, which is currently on the market. For more photos and floor plans, go to https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-nsw-strathfield-146086588
This house was originally built in 1911-1912, probably a single storey Federation bungalow. The real estate photos show parts of the house retain some of the house’s historic features, though much has been added. Click here for link to the historical feature on 87 The Boulevarde.
If anyone has any better photos of the house or more information, please let me know at strathfieldhistory@gmail.com
The history of the house is interesting with associations to politicians including a member of the Hordern retail family, who represented the Labor Party in the NSW Upper House in 1920s. It is also the former home of Kath Carr, a well known garden designer, who did much to promote the use of native plantings along with Edna Welling. There is an interesting article which mentions Carr from a 2023 talk by Stuart Read on History of Native Plants in Gardens. https://resources.austplants.com.au/stories/the-history-of-garden-design-using-australian-native-plants-1788-now/
Happy New Year 2025. Please leave any comments.
Regards
Cathy
