Boden Reserve, Strathfield

By Cathy Jones

Boden Reserve is located on land originally granted to Joseph Hyde Potts in 1841 and Henry Grattan Douglas in 1833.  By 1914, a large portion measuring over 49 acres was acquired by the Intercolonial Investment Land and Building Company, who commenced subdivision of the land for residential development.  The land was marketed as the ‘Karuah Estate’

Boden Reserve was acquired as open space by Strathfield Council as the land was divided by a deep drain and considered unsuitable for building.

The land was transferred from the Intercolonial Investment Land and Building Company to Strathfield Council and dedicated for public recreation.  Part of the land transferred in 1928 (Lots 193, 194 and 195) and 1934. In 1940, an additional lot was acquired to create another park entry onto Howard Street.

The park was named after Frederick Boden, an Alderman of Strathfield Council (1924-1933).  Boden died while serving as an Alderman and the Council named this park in his memory.
