Lowes Gardens, Strathfield

Lowes Gardens, a small area of open space, is located on the northern corner of Arthur Street and Fraser Street Strathfield.  Lowes Gardens is situated on land originally granted to Joseph Hyde Potts in 1841.  In December 1938, the land was acquired by Strathfield Council for public recreation. The site was expanded in size with the partial closure of Fraser Street, near the intersection of Arthur Street.

At the meeting of Strathfield Council on 15 July 1952, the park was named Lowe’s Gardens, named after Henry Albert Lowe.  Lowe was the long-term Council caretaker who died in April 1952. The Council resolution stated the dedication was due to his “long, loyal and efficient services to Council”.
