Orari’, 3 Chalmers Road Strathfield is an altered Victorian styled house. This land on which it was built was acquired in October 1889 by James Edward Hogg, a solicitor. At this time the street was known as Bennett Street, which was later renamed Chalmers Road.
The house was built late 1889 or early 1890. The house first appears in the Sands Directory in 1890 for J E Hogg, solicitor, named ‘Honeywell’. Hogg occupied the house until 1895, when it was leased to A J Gater, who named the house ‘Orari’.
Hogg transferred the property in July 1899 to William Halkett of Strathfield, an engineer. Following the death of Halkett, the property transferred (by transmission) in July 1945 to Mary Amelia Halkett, widow and Philip William Chapman of Epping, mechanical engineer.
The property was sold in December 1945 to Stanley Urbane Grimmett, of Bankstown, chemist. In April 1960, the property transferred to Michael O’Brien, a merchant.
