62 Homebush Road Strathfield is an Interwar Bungalow, built in 1934. The property was formerly numbered 44 Homebush Road but was renumbered in 62 Homebush Road in 1960.
62 Homebush Road is built on a 1903 subdivision that was marketed as the ‘Kings Estate’. The estate was subdivided by Robert Joshua King (1857-1934) and Mary Ann Balmain (d.1943), the wife of surveyor and Town Clerk of Strathfield Council, John Hope Balmain. The Kings Estate created the western end of Churchill Avenue (then called The Avenue), Redmyre Road (part) and Homebush Road (part).
Lot 5 of the Kings Estate was acquired by the Minister for Public Works in March 1908. Lot 5 became two lots, Lot A and B, at 62 and 64 Homebush Road. The sites were retained by the NSW Government with the intention of building a police station. Both sites remained vacant until the Government decided not to proceed with these plans.
In July 1934, part of lot 5 (then known as Lot A) was transferred from the Hon. Reginald Walter Darcy Weaver, Minister for Public Works of State of NSW to Arthur Allan Norrie, of 105 Homebush Road, Strathfield. Norrie was a builder. In 1934, Arthur Norrie lodged a building application for a brick dwelling of seven rooms at an estimated cost of £1100.
In April 1936, Arthur Norrie transferred ownership to Richard Werner, a company director, and his wife Alice Margaret Werner. The house was sold for £1695. Richard Werner died in 1938 and ownership transferred to his widow. In September 1938, Mrs Werner transferred ownership to Bessie Snedden, wife of Harry James Snedden of Enfield, Secretary.
In 1950, ownership transferred to Sydney and Agnes Heatley and in June 1973, ownership transferred to George Henry Martin, a surveyor and his wife, Imelda Mary Martin. Following the death of George Martin, ownership transferred in 1977 to his widow Imelda Martin, and Denise Sheridan. Ms Sheriden became the owner in 1978 after the death of Imelda Martin.
