This memorial was built and dedicated in 2015. The Homebush-Strathfield RSL sub-branch was once located at 32 The Crescent Homebush. The front garden and entry to the Club featured plaques with the names of members who served in various war conflicts. The club closed over 20 years ago. A grant was obtained from the Federal Government to build a new memorial in Davey Square, Strathfield. This park is bounded by Coventry Rd, Beresford Rd and Rochester Street. The Homebush War Memorial, which was dedicated by the former Homebush Municipal Council in 1918 is located opposite in Davey Square Memorial.
The memorial was dedicated on 8 November 2015. The memorial is comprised of a wall, a paved area and numerous plaques. The wall is about 1 metre high, and inside the concrete circle in front of the wall is a paved circle with ‘the Ode’ inscribed around the edge. There is a plaque in the centre of the paving. There are 339 plaques honouring those who served from the First World War, the Second World War and the Korean campaign.
The plaque dedicated on 8 November 2015 states:
Strathfield Council and the Homebush-Strathfield RSL Sub-Branch honour the members of our community who have served in the Australian Defence Forces during both War and Peace, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
We dedicate this memorial in commemoration of those who gave their lives so that we can live in peace and to the veterans who returned to build the community we proudly share today.
