This is in response to an enquiry about the history of the house ‘Tremans’ which once stood at 52 Albyn Road, which has since been demolished. If there are any photos of this house, please send me a copy.
‘Tremans’ 26 Albyn Road Strathfield (renumbered 52 Albyn Rod in August 1952) was built in 1921. The building application was approved in November 1920 to build a brick cottage. The owner was Mrs Phillips, The Avenue Strathfield. The builder was W Moller, Builder, Sydney. The estimated value of works was £1200.
According to the Sands Directory, the house first appeared in 1922 on Albyn Road for Mrs H L S Phillips ‘Tremans’. From 1923 to 1930, it was listed in the directory as Mrs H L S Phillips ‘Tremans’ 26 Albyn Road Strathfield. From 1931 to 1932, it was occupied by Misses Phillips, 26 Albyn Road. In the valuation listing of 1930, the house was owned by the Estate of the Late Mrs Hortense Lucie Simpson Phillips.
