About the event
Come along to a talk on the Cinemas of the Strathfield District (and beyond). We will talk about the rise of films and cinemas from the late 1910s and the building of many lavish suburban cinemas in Sydney, which became an important social and recreation venue in the mid-20th century. Unfortunately, the coming of television in the 1950s caused the decline of attendance to suburban cinemas leading to their closure.
The speaker is Cathy Jones, Secretary of the Strathfield-Homebush District Historical Society. The event is free.
