The Cinema History talk was held on Sunday May 31st 2026 at Strathfield Library. The talk covered a range of topics including discussion of the rise and fall of suburban cinemas, histories of many cinemas in Sydney’s west including Strathfield and surrounding suburbs, the influence of the American Film Studios on distribution of films to suburban cinemas and the advent of television leading the decline in cinema attendance and the rise from the 1950s until the 1970s of the drive in theatre.
Many people were interested in some of the slides from the talk. I have put together a short video of the highlights from the presentation.
Also attached is a table of some of the many local cinemas, past and present, operating around Strathfield district in Sydney’s west.
