The next meeting of the Strathfield District Historical Society will be held on Saturday March 6 2010 at Strathfield Library, 65-67 Rochester Street Homebush. The lecture commences at 1pm and finishes at 4pm with an afternoon tea served. This is a free event and all are welcome to attend.
John Oakes, an expert on Sydney’s Railway History, will be speaking about “The St James Tunnel”. St James Rail Station is located in Hyde Park in the City but has a number of hidden tunnels which have been used for many purposes. This history of this station is fascinating and unknown to most people, even those who use the rail station regularly.
John is a very engaging speaker and author of a number of books including: “Sydney’s Forgotten City Railways”, “Sydney’s Forgotten Rural Railways” and “Sydney’s Forgotten Military Railways”. This a lecture you won’t want to miss.
