Peter Smith, former Mayor of Strathfield, has died. Peter served on Strathfield Council from 1991 to 2000 (2 terms) as an Independent. He was elected at an ordinary Council election on 14 September 1991 and was re-elected at the 9 September 1995 Council election. He was elected as Deputy Mayor in September 1996 and was acting Mayor for many months in the absence of the Mayor, Cr Eve Dutton.
He was elected as Mayor of Strathfield in September 1997 for a twelve month period.
Peter was a finance broker but best known in the local community for his outstanding community work across many organisations including Rotary and organising the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal. He will be greatly missed by the many people and groups he helped and supported.
